What it measures

Thefts of every kind, burglaries excluded, recorded by the police, per 100,000 inhabitants. Version published by Eurostat on 28 September 2018, retrieved from a copy kept by the Internet Archive.

Methodology

Thefts of every kind, burglaries excluded, recorded by the police, per 100,000 inhabitants, following the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS code 0502). They count reported and recorded offences, not all those committed. Offence definitions and recording practices differ by country: the comparison should be read with caution. For Italy the figure comes from the Ministry of the Interior through ISTAT. Eurostat computes no EU-27 value.
